Since 1990, SAP-Pakistan has been involved in the process of formation, capacity building and providing financial and technical support to community based organizations (CBOs) and groups of citizens. In these years, SAP-PK has also worked extensively with national, regional and international organizations on different research, advocacy and development partnership programs. Some notable projects, implemented with regional and international groups are as follows:
- A regional study on Civil Society and the new Millennium with Commonwealth Foundation UK. (2000)
- A regional Study on ‘Sexual Harassment and Exploitation of Children’ with UNICEF. (2001)
- A three-year program ‘South Asian Regional Program for People in Policy (SARPPP) with CIDA.
- A regional program on ‘Peace and Human Security’ with South Asian Small Arms Network (SASANET) and International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA).
- Implemented a 3-year project ‘Supporting Democratic and Electoral Process for Women (SDEP) supported by UNDP.
- A three-year program ‘Democratic Rights and Citizens Education Program (DRCEP) 2000-03 with the support of The Asia Foundation.
- A one-year ‘Democracy and Human Rights Program (DHRP) 2002-03 in 42 districts with the support from European Commission (EC).
- A 4-year program ‘Small Peasants Development Program (SFDP) with the support from International Development and Refugee Foundation (IDRF) Canada.
- Implementing a 3-year Gender Justice and Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW)’ project 2004-07 with OXFAM UK.
In the last 18 years SAP-PK focused on building capacity of community groups, local networks, training social activists, formation of local, district, provincial and national level networks of CBOs, NGOs, CSOs, HR and Peace activists. These individuals, groups and network play a catalyst role in different HR, Peace, Election monitoring and Voters Education campaigns. A snap shot of the achievements: - SAP-PK trained 900 groups (women, Peasants’ committees and workers groups), contributing to social development and pro-people policies and decisions at local, provincial and national levels.
- The 2,500 community and civil society groups are the network partners of SAP-PK and advocating for their rights in a coordinated and organized manner; Support civil society groups and organizations fighting against any form of social injustice, discriminatory laws, violation of human rights especially women & minority rights.
- Through its Democratic Rights and Citizens Education Program (DRCEP) and Democratic and Human Rights Program (DHRP) SAP-PK formed citizens assemblies, democratic watch groups, designed thematic material and disseminated.
- 60 district democratic forums (DDF) and 1350 civil society groups and activists in 42 districts.
- 244 trained journalist/media representatives in 42 districts;
- Pool of trainers on Human Resource and Democratic Development at district level including 232 minority activists in 42 districts and 32 theatre groups and 450 activists; and 1460 political and human rights activists in 42 districts.
- 950 Peasants committees at village level, from 40 districts and two provincial networks of peasants groups formed and operational.
- About 15000 trained rural women activists in 1500 villages of 6 districts of Punjab are now actively involved in local level social development and HR advocacy activities.
- Training of Local Government Representatives (Councilors, Naib-Nazims, etc) for better understanding their roles and rights in Local Government Structure.
- SAP-Pakistan has been involved in the process of managing more than 700 trained volunteers to conduct Election-Day Monitoring of 2002-3 Elections
- Having conducted a number of researches on different socio-economic, socio-political and other emerging issues, SAP-Pakistan has managed teams of volunteer in field work, data entry, analysis and reporting.
- Serving as the National Secretariat of Pakistan Social Forum (the Pakistan part of the World Social Forum), SAP-Pakistan in cooperation with partner organizations has been managing a very large group of volunteers.
